Becoming an ALOC member

ALOC’s members are composed of lawyers and articling students employed by the government of Ontario, with the exception of lawyers in the Criminal Law Division, who are represented by the OCAA.

ALOC positions are filled either through short term contracts or job competitions pursuant to ALOC’s collective agreement with the government.

Order of Placement/Eligibility

Where the Employer decides to fill a vacancy, the following order will be followed to fill the vacancy:

  1. All ALOC/OCAA lawyers – regular and fixed term, and ALOC/OCAA lawyers on the Redeployment lists and Articling Student Hireback Pool Members;
  2. Open competition, which will not be initiated unless no qualified candidate has been identified at the earlier steps.
